WSO & Saison Voyageur Announce a Second Kaleidoscope of Culture with 2011: The Concert!

The Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra (WSO) is proud to present the second consecutive “concert of the year” featuring 17 of Winnipeg’s best musical talents!

2011: The Concert will kick off the new year by showing-off a diverse and impressive array of guest artists on Sunday, January 2, 2011. The initial celebration that was conceived following Winnipeg’s designation of “Cultural Capital of Canada 2010” was so successful that the WSO, together with Saison Voyageur and Manitoba Homecoming decided to give Winnipeggers another opportunity to celebrate its cornucopia of cultural.

“2010: The Concert was one of the first events of the Homecoming year and this years’ concert will help us close off the Homecoming 2010 Celebrations,” says Kevin Walters, executive director of Manitoba Homecoming. “We look forward to celebrating the New Year with some of Manitoba’s best talent.”

Manitoba Homecoming 2010 was a year-long celebration in 2010 encouraging visitors and former and current Manitobans together for events, festivals and an all-around great party. The initiative focused on the rich culture and traditions of Manitoba through special events, festivals, cultural events and community gatherings along with an emphasis on the opportunity for business and careers.

In 2011, Saison Voyageur will continue the Homecoming Legacy with a series of events celebrating Winter in Winnipeg. This event will once again showcase the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra’s diversity within the community under the baton of WSO Resident Conductor Richard Lee. The 62-year legacy of the WSO is integral to Winnipeg’s rich cultural life. It performs more than 80 concerts for approximately 100,000 people each year and offers a wide range of musical experiences ranging from great art of the master composers, to Pops, Family Concerts, educational performances, and other special concerts. The WSO continues to provide the musical foundation for other arts groups in the province such as the Royal Winnipeg Ballet, Manitoba Opera and the Manitoba Chamber Orchestra. In addition to performing in Brandon on a regular basis, the orchestra tours rural Manitoba annually during the holiday season in the Holiday Express Tour, visiting areas like Steinbach, Portage la Prairie, Pinawa, Gladstone and Winkler.
